About

Sarah and Nick

Established in 2017 we are a family owned husband and wife team.

Nick was raised and schooled in the Wairarapa.  He joined the NZ Army in 2000.  During his time in the army he deployed to East Timor, Bosnia & Herzegovina.  He trained as a Physical Trainer and most recently as a Plumber, Gas fitter and Drainlayer.

Nick is a passionate rugby fan and retired player.  Nick represented both the NZ Army and the NZ Defence Force for rugby.  He also loves anything to do with sport and fitness.

Since retiring from rugby Nick’s passion now lies with his family and all things plumbing and gas.

In recent times we made the decision for Nick to leave the army after 17 years and pursue a business interest of our own.

Nick is a Certifying Plumber, Gas Fitter and Drain Layer and the face of Nick Wickham Plumbing and Gas.

Nick’s wife Sarah works behind the scenes to keep things ticking along.

From our family to yours, we look forward to working with you.

Nick and Sarah Wickham

Top Plumbing Tips for your Home

Be Mindful Of What Is Going Down Your Drain

If there is one plumbing disaster that is likely to upset your day it will be a problem with your drainage and one thing that will almost guarantee that your drain will not be functioning properly will be something that you pour down it. Never pour grease, oil, or fat down the drain. This can harden and clog your waste water pipework. Before washing your greasy dishes allow them to cool and wipe grease off with paper towels and place into a rubbish bin.

Use Your Waste Disposal Correctly

The kitchen is the biggest culprit for plumbing issues, with the waste disposal being one area that is often misused. Your disposal is not able to sufficiently grind certain items and these will ultimately create a blockage. Some of the more common culprits are pumpkin pulp, poultry skins, celery, fruit, potato peels, lettuce, egg shells and vegetable peels. Anything that is not able to be ground properly will very likely cause a blockage. Always run water through when grinding and for 10-20 seconds after grinding is complete to allow organic matter to be flushed properly.

Avoid Leaking Taps

Stay on top of any leaking tap ware, especially hot water as these will waste energy which in turn costs you money. Left unmaintained these can lead to bigger problems down the line.
